Congratulations to Autism Angel Ms. Irene Carolina A. Sarmiento for winning the 1st Prize for Short Story for Children (Tabon Girl) in the 60th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature last September 1, 2010.

Teacher Irene is an occupational therapist who has worked with children with autism. The book also contains artwork from Christian Oliver “Rev” A. Cruz of Ang Illustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK), who was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2009 PBBY Alcala Prize. Rev is also a physical therapist specializing in ergonomics and aquatherapy.
Published by the multi-award winning Anvil Publishing, Inc., Spinning aims to highlight what children with autism are capable of being and sharing with others as whole human beings.
The story features Tin-Tin, a smart little girl, who wants to understand her Kuya’s “funny” behavior. As in the title, “spinning” (or “twirling”) is one such repetitive behavior seen in some children with autism.
There will be a book signing event at the Manila International Book Fair at the SMX Convention Center on Sunday, September 19, 2010, 4pm. The book is also available at ASP Office for only P150. Part of the proceeds will go to ASP programs and services. Start your Christmas Shopping NOW! Call 926-6941 or 929-8447 now to place your orders.
