ASP National Office received a generous donation of thirty thousand pesos (Php30,000) from Trustee Mariter Jalandoni Macapagal during the 3rd Chapter Leaders Conference 28 August 2010. The donation was a pledge made by the Macapagal Family during the “Our Andrei: Living with Autism,” book launch at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club last May.
Ma. Therese Jalandoni, better known as Mariter, is married to Arturo, second child of the late President Diosdado Macapagal. Mariter is executive directress of St. Joseph Cupertino School for Special Children and a senior professor at Miriam College. She has a master’s degree in special education and a doctorate degree in education administration from the University of the Philippines. She is currently serving ASP as Board of Trustee.
The gala dinner-book launch was a way to celebrate Andrei’s autism. Andrei, a trained artist, is often invited to exhibit his private collections in ASP events such as the Autism Consciousness Week and World Autism Awareness Day. Aside from the numerous paintings that were raffled off by the family, guests were also treated to a musical number by Andrei. The activity was attended by ASP Board of Trustees.

“Our Andrei”, a first of its kind in the Philippines, is a biographical book about the Macapagal Family’s struggle with autism. Arthur and Mariter Macapagal, together with their two other children, Alex and Melissa chose Autism Society Philippines as beneficiary of the Majal and Melendrex Foundation. Mariter, who co-chairs ASP’s Advocacy Committee, intends that the donation be the seed money for ASP’s Endowment Fund.
