Mrs. Carmel, is known for her unending support to advocate the rights of the PWAs, opens her life and journey with her son, Mike, a person with autism (PWA) who now holds a permanent position as an administrative assistant in the head office of the Philippine Information Agency.
One of the participant said that “There is hope and there are so many answers in all of our questions on how we will manage our kids with autism,” because Mrs. Carmel is also known with her motto “Don’t take ‘NO’ for an answer.” For her, there’s a lot of ways to help and support the children with autism. Advocating for the rights of the CWAs must be practice at all times.
“I am always saying from the moment that my child was diagnosed, my anxiety is bigger and heavier than me, but after this meeting, from what I have heard for other parents. Big relief, through all anxieties and do not give up the word hope, acceptance? Yes I am nearly there!”
Participants learned a lot from Mrs. Carmel -- tips, techniques and ‘things to do.’ They are also looking forward for the next Family Support Group Meeting.
