ASP hosted the seminar ABCs of ABA

ASP hosted a seminar ABCs of ABA (Antecedent, Behavior and Consequence of Applied Behavioral Analysis) and welcomed 76 participants who were parents and therapists held in Autism Society Philippines National Headquarters last 28 November 2015, with ASP trustee Gina Bermundo as the primary resource.

Ms. Gina presented to the participants about what behavior was all about. There were types of behavior such us “socially acceptable” and “socially unacceptable.” The behavior was all about people say and do as they were observable, measurable and functional. She showed the slide on how children with autism behave in a manner way as they do something strange and odd. She also taught on how to handle children by educating them to behave properly.

Ms. Gina presenting ABCs of ABA

Ms. Gina let one of the participants go in front of her as face to face to show the example on how a child disobeys a teacher as she requests what to do. She pointed out about Autism Spectrum Disorder which talked about the differences of people’s behavior such us deficits and excesses. She shared what ABA was all about to teach therapists on how to handle special children. Ms. Gina asked if who could provide an ABA for kids to have motor skills as they have disabilities to learn faster, be better and when to receive it.

There were many kinds of practices to teach therapists to instruct children as they should be independent for them obey especially parents. Ms. Gina gave an example on how a student disobey a teacher as they were told what to do. It needed to take practice for them to follow especially teachers and parents.

Participants shared how their children / students did odd behaviors as they insisted whatever they wanted to do. Ms. Gina Bermudo replied to them about if parents and therapists see odd behaviors of children with autism, they would know how to discipline by scolding them.

“The speaker is very effective. She explained / delivered the topic so well and so understandable to be a student like me.”

“The topic was delivered well.”

“Effective to kids and ASD. Answered the questions and practiced the method. Used
layman's term that was easy to understand. She used visual aids effectively. It
accommodated the people."
